Local Area News:

Lakeside RV Park -

We are now headed into our spring season, which many of us think is the best time of the year.  With the slow warming trend comes the blooming of the desert.  The fresh smells and the renewing of the vegetation is here for all to see and enjoy.

Based on the weather that the northern part of New Mexico has received there should be plenty of water coming down the Rio Grand when the snow starts to melt.  When this happens Elephant Butte Lake will begin to rise and hopefully provide us with lake levels comparable to last summer.  With the higher water levels Elephant Butte Lake will again be a “water sports” enthusiast’s place to be.  If you are planning on spending some time with us this summer please insure that you make your RESERVATION early.

Truth or Consequences

Work continues on the new Wal Mart Super Center, however, due to the “normal snags” the company sometime encounters during construction early summer is now the target opening date.   Construction work has also been started on the Strip Mall that is going to be built in the same area as the Wal Mart Store.

A final contract has been signed for the purchase of land for the construction of the new Sierra Vista Hospital.  Work will now move ahead to develop plans for construction.

Turtle Back Mountain Resort  (Sierra del Rio Golf Course)    Several homes are under construction at the Resort.  The Restaurant is doing great and having eaten there, as many of Guests have, the food and service are excellent.  The Golf Course looks to be in excellent shape and with nice weather coming golfers will begin to “hit the links.”

Elephant Butte  –  Work continues on the Waste Water Treatment facility with four of the five lift stations operational with the fifth due online soon.  Pending a satisfactory run of the sewer’s IV disinfection system it is predicted that the “hook ups” to the system will begin sometime in February.  According to the local news, this year more roads are going to be black topped in the city as part of the continuing plan for improvements in Elephant Butte.
